While there seems to be a constant neglect for guitar music in the British and European music scene every now and then a decent rock band surfaces who still know how to play. So I came across New Ivory the other day, a guitar based band from London. Despite the band being british they are signed to american label Dim Mak Records who have also signed fellow-Londoners Scanners. Maybe the Americans appreciate guitars a little more? Who knows.
Their first single A knight is a catchy rock tune reminiscent of bands such as Arctic Monkeys or Maximo Park in their heyday.
Their second single Something you should know is a guitar driven song, it even has a guitar solo! I felt like pointing that out because there’s not that much guitar music out there in the indie music scene. The guitar riff that is repeating throughout the song has a bit of a Bloc Party feel for me. The lyrics match the catchiness of the song, the chorus line “There’s something you should know, you’re sleeping in my soul” is stuck in my head and it’s one that will be easy to sing along to even if you had one too many.
